Stepping stones to publication

Are you ready to take your writing to the next level?
Editing in Paradise means taking your writing further along its path; using the stepping stones of editing and rewriting, on your way to publication.
Editing in Paradise provides a haven for developing writers—by that we mean any writer who has started the writing journey, wants to take it further, and (perhaps) isn't sure how.

The Editing in Paradise process
Editing in Paradise is a self-editing masterclass retreat run by editors Shelley Kenigsberg and Selena Hanet-Hutchins. Held in Pemuteran, Northwest Bali, the program is structured over 6 days and offers individual consultations and self-editing techniques along with market awareness tools, designed to help writers recognise when they are at pitching point or how to read the feedback in reports and rejections.

Whatever your final destination—publication, finishing the manuscript, or just getting through the next draft—the EIP process can work for you. You may be writing fiction, or non-fiction. It may be a novel or short stories or essays. For any of those pieces, you may be just starting out, or you’ve got stuck halfway through. Perhaps you’ve done your final draft and need direction and expertise to take the next step?

Or…maybe you've lost the way altogether (or perhaps written so many drafts you've lost the will to live!). In every case,
Editing in Paradise can help.
Shelley and Selena were utterly professional in their judgements of our work and so structured in their advice. Such a likeable duo… To have so much encouragement from them both has put wind in my sails. Now I really feel I can make it to the end.
(Mark Lang, Byron Bay 'mini-retreat', 2010)

What happens at the retreat?
At an Editing in Paradise retreat you will get:
  • two experienced professional editors reading your manuscript
  • two one-on-one consultations with the editors
  • focussed individual attention (maximum of 10 participants)
  • exercises tailored for your self-editing process
  • editing tips and techniques
  • publishing consultation—markets and pitching to publishers
Why Bali?
Besides cultural beauty and richness, and its proximity to Australia, we have a longstanding connection to the island—Shelley's been visiting for over twenty years and speaks Bahasa Indonesia—and it's the perfect mix of inspiration and focussed practice.

Why join us at Editing in Paradise?
Inspiration, encouragement, guidance and the expertise to take writing further, with the support of a small writing community.

In 2009, the first of our masterclass retreats, participants did themselves (and us!) proud.
(Read what they had to say.)

We held an abridged version of the masterclass at the Northern Rivers Writers’ Centre in Byron Bay, 27–28 March 2010, and, even in two days, participants tell us it was inspiring!
