Editing in Paradise 2011 Program
We look forward to welcoming you to the 2011 Editing in Paradise masterclass retreats, to be held in:
- Bali, Indonesia (10–17 October)
- Western Cape, South Africa (15-22 January)
- Mornington Peninsula, Australia (26 February-4 March 2012)
- Kangaroo Valley, Australia (20–27 May)
- and look out for the Sri Lanka retreat (in Galle) in 2012...
What happens at the retreat?
At an Editing in Paradise retreat you will get:
- 2 professional editors who have read your manuscript
- a minimum of 4 one-on-one consultations with the editors
- focussed individual attention
- small group sessions (maximum of 8 writers)
- exercises tailored to your self-editing needs
- editing tips and techniques to guide you in the process
- publishing consultation—where to next?
- interpretation of publishers’ feedback
- fully catered meals
- accommodation in a beautiful, inspirational setting
- transport to venue from nearest major city.
What’s the daily program?
Each day includes group and individual sessions focussed on your manuscript plus time to write, think or get inspired.
You will have the support and the freedom you need. So if you’d rather spend most of your time ‘just’ writing and finessing your manuscript, that’s fine. Doing the group work is not compulsory, though you’ll be thrilled to see what happens if you do.
Morning: Wake in your luxury room; enjoy a leisurely breakfast before the first group session of self-editing tips and tricks—insider knowledge to help you recognise and address your manuscript’s weaknesses and bring out its strengths. Join Shelley or Selena afterwards, if scheduled to have one of your 4 private editorial consultations or get straight into your self-editing.
Afternoon: Work on your manuscript, on your own or with a supplementary consultation—or spend it reading, writing, relaxing, or making the most of the local attractions.
Evening: Join the relaxed evening group session for discussion and self-editing exercises tailored to your manuscript before sharing a delicious evening meal.
So how do you book?
It’s easy. Go to our How to Book page. Please note bookings for Bali 2011 are already coming in. Since group size is restricted to a maximum of 8 participants, you’d be advised to book sooner rather than later to avoid disappointment.
Our Editing in Paradise course is tailored to developing writers who have a manuscript (fiction or creative non-fiction, ideally finished to first draft stage; maximum of 120,000 words). We would like to receive your manuscripts by email 3 weeks prior to each course (17 September for Bali) and ask that you also bring a hard copy of the ms to the retreat.
